Juniperus squamata 'Floreant', also known as a Chinese Silver Flaky Juniper, is a dwarf evergreen conifer with a flat-mound shape. Blue foliage is variegated with specks of cream-white. Selecting the correct location is critical for this conifer, as exposure to hot afternoon sun will most certainly burn the variegation. Morning sun will keep the plant from opening up, becoming leggy; and will help to ward off fungal problems. This cultivar originated as a variegated sport found on a specimen of Juniperus squamata 'Blue Star' selected in the early 1990s by W. v. Nierop at the Drayer nursery, Heemstede, The Netherlands, naming it for a Boskoop soccer club. In 1993 Mr. v. Nierop introduced the first plants to the European nursery trade.
