Acer palmatum 'Verkade's Wintergold', also known as Green Bark Japanese Maple, is a rare and distinctive Japanese maple introduced by Verkade’s Nursery. Large, deeply divided green leaves emerge in spring, followed by striking reddish-orange new growth throughout summer. Fall brings brilliant golden-yellow to orange color, while the bright chartreuse-green young bark provides exceptional winter interest. With its upright, semi-pendulous habit, ‘Verkade’s Winter Gold’ reaches approximately 8 ft tall by 10 ft wide in 10 years, making it an excellent choice as a specimen or collector’s plant. Sometimes listed as ‘Wintergold’, it should not be confused with the similarly named snakebark selection.
