Acer palmatum 'Kaga kujaku', is a deciduous upright Japanese maple. In Japan, it is not unusual for the best gardens to have their own maple selections chosen for specific traits that can be only found in that particular garden. 'Kaga kujaku' is one of these selections. This Japanese maple was selected from the wild as a seedling from yama-momiji. The original Japanese maple tree resides in a well-known garden in the Ishikawa Prefecture of Japan. In the spring leaves emerge large and heavily divided with bright pink-red coloring. The leaves turn to a rich green by early summer. Mid-summer flushes return to a bright pink-red growth making a beautiful contrast with the deep green background. Autumn colors range from bright oranges to red.
