Acer palmatum 'Catalina yatsubusa', is an elegant dwarf deciduous tree with small, tightly-layered green leaves. 'Catalina yatsubusa' is a super small compact tree with a hint of variegation on the borders. It was found as a sport on the ever so popular Acer 'Mikawa yatsubusa'. The new growth is much smaller and thinner than the parent tree and older leaves are larger and tightly layer. Fall color is yellow to orange. Overall shape is marvelous, providing winter interest as well. Considered to be one of the finest Japanese maples. New growth emerges yellow-green in spring, turns medium green in summer, and finishes with brilliant yellow-orange to fiery red and burgundy in autumn. This tree is grafted.
