Buchholz Nursery has spent more than four decades hunting, growing, and introducing rare ornamental plants from a 28-acre farm in Gaston, Oregon. Founded by Talon Buchholz, our wholesale operation supplies Japanese maples, dwarf and unusual conifers, and ornamental trees and shrubs to America's finest garden centers and landscape designers.
This is our retail branch — the same plant material, same growers, same standards, now offered direct to home gardeners and collectors. If you've admired a Ghost Series maple at a botanical garden or picked up an unusual conifer at a high-end nursery on the East Coast, there's a real chance it started its life on our hill in the Tualatin Valley.
The Ghost Series is our signature line of Japanese maple introductions. Selected over decades from seedling rows at the Flora Wonder Arboretum, these cultivars — 'Ghost Dancer', 'Amber Ghost', 'First Ghost', 'Sister Ghost', and others — share a distinctive variegated leaf and an upright, sculptural habit prized by collectors.
Today, Ghost Series maples are grown in nurseries across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. Every retail Ghost Series plant we ship traces back to original mother stock at our Gaston farm.
Most rare plants pass through three or four sets of hands before they reach a home gardener. Each handoff means more time in transit, more chance of root damage, and more markup. Our retail branch shortens that chain to one: from our growing rows directly to your garden.
