Acer japonicum × 'Gossamer' is a distinctive dwarf Full Moon Japanese maple with a bushy, semi-weeping form and delicate, almost thread-like foliage. The light green leaves create a fine, airy texture through the growing season before transforming into a spectacular display of vibrant red and deep purple in fall. Its unusual foliage can develop an almost oil-slick appearance as the autumn colors emerge. 'Gossamer' is a cross between Acer palmatum and Acer japonicum and was found by Billy Schwartz beneath a large Acer japonicum at the original Red Maple Nursery in Lima, Pennsylvania.
